How do Chameleons Change Color?

Chameleons change color because of cells called chromatophores. These cells contain color pigments and they change rapidly depending on the mood and temperature of the chameleon. The chameleons can manipulate these cells to change specific colors: if the chameleon is cold, it will change to a dark blue, gray, or black. If a male chameleon spots another male chameleon, he will change to a dark orange or red.
